Maria Porter is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Economy and Moral Science at the University of Arizona. Her research involves work in labor economics, impact evaluation, risk and time preferences, intra-household labor allocation decisions, factors influencing households’ adoption of new crops and agricultural technologies, and understanding adult children’s motivations for giving transfers and support to parents. She uses a variety of research methods, including randomized control trials, laboratory experiments, and survey data analysis. She is currently involved in research projects in Burkina Faso, China, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, and the U.S. Porter holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago, and was a research fellow at the University of Oxford.
