After decades of internal conflict, Liberia faces both opportunities and challenges for agriculture-led growth and food security. Food insecurity is widespread, and children are especially vulnerable. Nationally, nearly 32 percent of children under five years of age suffer from stunting, and 15 percent are underweight.
Current agricultural productivity in Liberia is very low with a high rate of post-harvest losses. Value chains are severely underdeveloped. Though the country is richly endowed with forests, soils and water resources, improving agricultural productivity and increasing resilience in the face of variable climatic conditions requires more sustainable management of these resources.
